Westbury-on-Severn Midweek XI v Painswick Midweek - 27/6/12

With the Midweek XI being the team to beat in Division 2 their fine run had to come to an end eventually - Painswick who had inflicted the team's only previous defeat of the season came with a very strong team of Gloucester Division regulars and there was a big gulf in "talent".

This gulf was inevident for much of this game as the Midweek XI battled until the end before dropping to a 4 wicket defeat.

Winning the toss, skipper Dan Anderson chose to bat and up against the opening bowler from Frocester, Westbury openers Ross Martin and Neil Wyman looked comfortable and got off to a superb start reached 37 off the first 4 overs before Martin was bowled for 13 and Wyman caught behind for 27. Wickets then began falling at regular intervals, Greg Artus hitting 20 with some big 6s through the leg side. Number 10 Tom Burrows also chipped in with some big hitting in the final over to finish unbeaten on 19 alongside Chris Wayman who ran intelligently to finish on 11 before the innings ended on 137 for 8 from the 20 overs.

With pressure on the Painswick openers from ball 1, several streaky edges and attacking shots meant they got off to a similarly fast start to take the pressure off in an attempt to kill the game. When one of the openers was removed thanks to a run out by Ian Martin wickets began falling and the run rate was rapidly increasing. A superb spell of off-spin bowling by Dan Hockaday deserved much more than just 2 wickets and he was backed up by Greg Artus who bowled with good pace and movement off the pitch. Despite this spell of Westbury pressure some late hitting and a dropped catch meant the visitors reached their target after 18 overs.

The result means the Midweek XI drop to 2nd in the table purely on Net Run Rate with a game in hand on the league leaders - still in with a very strong chance of Promotion at the first attempt back to Division 1.

Next week the Midweek XI travel to Witcombe.

Pete Wilson again produced a superb album of photographs from this fixture, many of which can be seen here :

Westbury-on-Severn 2XI v Cheltenham Saracens 2XI. 23/6/12

Another superb win for the 2XI under Ian Nice, with several regulars missing out a new look team trounced Saracens in a rather one sided encounter at the Parish Hall.

With heavy rain forecasted Saracens made the mistake to bat first and like the previous game v Frampton the 2XI bowled out the visitors for 84 inside 40 overs. Outstanding figures for Joe McGregor (9-5-9-4) backed up by Rich Poole (2-17) and Ian Nice (2-21) as well as 2 runs out from Aidan Barr and a cheeky run out by Scott Thomas.

Chasing another low total it was essential that the 2XI got off to a good start to calm any nerves, despite the early loss of Scott Thomas, it was Barr who anchored the innings with a confident 27 before being dismissed with the runs required in single figures. He was ably assisted by Rob Hale (24) before McGregor and Poole saw the team home inside 18 overs.

This big win kept the 2XI in 3rd place, right on the tails of the top 2. They travel to Aston Ingham next Saturday, as usual with a 1:30 start.

Westbury-on-Severn Midweek XI v Birdlip and Brimpsfield

Last Wednesday evening the Midweek XI travelled to Birdlip and secured an impressive win to cement their position on top of the Division 2 table.

After losing the toss and bowling first the home team were restricted to just 118 from their 20 overs for the loss of 9 wickets. Wickets for skipper Dan Anderson (4-0-40-2), Dan Hockaday (4-0-13-2), Greg Artus (3-0-10-2) who was denied a first career hat trick due to a drop in the field. Wickets apiece for Rich Edginton and John Hargreaves completed the bowling. A lot of tight fielding and bowling especially from Hockaday and Artus kept the score low and the league leaders confident of chasing it down.

In a well paced and steady reply the Midweek XI reached their target after 18 overs thanks mainly to Gary Morgan (31), Rich Edginton (28) and finally Tony Campbell who delivered some clever running and appreciation of the gaps in the field to score 28 to see the team home alongside skipper Anderson who finished on 14 not out.

Westbury-on-Severn 1XI v Dymock 23/6/12

On Saturday, the Firsts travelled to Dymock for only their 3rd fixture of a weather-affected season. Fielding first the hosts were restricted to 175 off their alloted 45 overs for the loss of 6 wickets with opening bowler Jon Hargreaves (9-4-18-1) and Ed Edginton (9-1-20-2) the pick of the bowling. In tricky and damp conditions that would be a tough chase.

The chase was perfect in the end, captain and opening bat Ian Dunn carried his bat for 72 runs and he was ably assisted by 43 from Chris Wayman and finally Dan Anderson 29* as the target of 175 runs was reached with just under 7 overs remaining. A great win which moves the 1XI up into 4th position within touching distance of the top teams - a position they will be looking to improve on as they welcome Ruardean Hill to the Parish Hall on Saturday afternoon with a 1:30 start.

Westbury-on-Severn Midweek XI v Gloucester City Winget Midweek

The Midweek XI enhanced their promotion credentials with a convincing and impressive victory over league leaders and WEPL Premier One club Gloucester City Winget.

After skipper Dan Anderson won the toss and elected to field, his decision was backed up with Tom Burrows removing the City opener producing a sharp catch from stand-in keeper Rich Poole and then Ross Martin took over bowling with pace and swing to produce 2 quick wickets to reduce City to 30-3 in the first 8 overs. City then pushed on and the other opener found the boundary with regularity before being caught by a superb (it was!) catch from Burrows at square leg off the bowling of Anderson. The visitors reached 127 from their 20 overs.

Chasing, it was Neil Wyman (27) and Chris Wayman (22) who got the Midweek XI off to a good steady start. When Ross Martin was dismissed after hitting a flat six into the village hall window, Dan Hockaday and Rich Edginton closed out the innings with 4 overs remaining, improving the crucial run rate, results elsewhere meant that the Midweek XI moved to the top of Division 2 ahead of Gloucester City and Painswick.

This Wednesday the Midweek XI travel to Birdlip and Brimpsfield.

Westbury-on-Severn 1XI v Chalford

With the 2XI thumping Frampton, the 1XI had a challenging trip to Chalford for only their second completed fixture of the season after several washouts.

After being inserted to bat on a usual minefield of a pitch, skipper Ian Dunn was the main run scorer with 82 as the exciting batting line-up struggled around him. With contributions from Dan Hockaday (21) and Jon Hargreaves (17) meant the 1XI reached 195-9 from their 45 overs - a score that the 1XI would have felt confident defending.

Victory was secured by 50 runs, 3 wickets from Hargreaves early on put the batsmen under pressure and allowed Dan Hockaday (1-27), Rich Edginton (3-22) and superb figures from Ed Edginton (2-8 off 9 overs) meant Chalford fell short and Westbury secured their first win at Chalford in a few seasons - a result to kick-start the season!

This Saturday's home game against Gloucester Crescent Pakistanis was rained off.

Westbury-on-Severn 2XI v Frampton-on-Severn 2XI.

On Saturday June 9, the 2XI welcomed Frampton to the Parish Hall on a sticky pitch in overcast conditions. Groudsmen Rich Eeles and Mike Edginton produced a great wicket after a period of rainfall and Frampton were asked to bat after home skipper Ian Nice won the toss.

After Frampton's captain and main run scorer was bowled by opener Tom Burrows (5-0-38-1) with the second ball of the afternoon, the hard work and industrious bowling of Jeremy Fern came into fruition and he bowled with pace and swing to sweep through Frampton's batting line-up and he ended up with his maiden 5 wicket haul for Westbury, conceding just 20 runs in his 9 overs. Tony Campbell came on for Burrows and he carried on the good work, he was rewarded with 4 wickets - 2 catches for Burrows along with some poor batting saw the wicket-keeper come bowler put in his best figures in his so far short Westbury career.

Chasing 89 for victory, opener Neil Wyman batted sensibly and responsibly to nearly carry his bat before being dismissed (by a 13 year old) with just 1 run remaining. Wyman finished on 59 and Westbury chased down the total within 22 overs for the loss of 4 wickets with Joe McGregor hitting the winning runs to seal a rather convincing win for the 2XI.

The victory owing much to the great bowling of Fern and Campbell and Wyman's top quality batting to anchor the chase.

This Saturday's fixture away at Woodmancote 2XI fell foul of the weather.
Next weekend the 2XI host Cheltenham Saracens at the Parish Hall with a 1:30 start.

Westbury 2XI v Tewkesbury 3XI

After the 1XI game versus Cheltenham St Stephens fell victim to the wet weather, the 2XI travelled to Twyning CC to take on Tewkesbury 3rds, a ground that seemed to have missed any rain in the county.

After captain Ian Nice lost the toss and was asked to bat, the home side's decision was vindicated as the 2XI were reduced to 40-4 within the first 10 overs. Mark Tippins being bowled 2 balls in a row, the first - being a no-ball. Joe McGregor reached 15 with a few boundaries before unfortunately playing on and Rob Hale was ran out for 4 as well as Rich Poole who scored 12 before being trapped Leg Before. Scott Thomas was then joined by Dan Hockaday and they set about rescuing the innings and put on over 100 in just over 12 overs to both increase the run rate and seize the momentum in favour of the visitors with a mix of big hitting and smart running. When Hockaday was caught at midwicket for an impressive 71 with the score on 152-5, Tom Burrows came in and along side Thomas they put on another 63 runs before Thomas was caught behind for 57. Burrows reached his 50 shortly afterwards and alongside skipper Ian Nice put on 50 runs before Burrows was caught in the deep for 66 (6x4s 4x6s) and the tail was wrapped up shortly afterwards and the 2XI finished 270 all out from 40 overs.

When Tewkesbury were quickly reduced to 12-3 thanks to a double from Jeremy Fern and 1 wicket for Burrows (2-1-2-1) the run rate was kept at almost 0 as Fern (9-4-16-2) and Rich Poole (6-5-4-0) meant the home team were only on 44 off 30 overs as the spin of Joe McGregor (9-4-12-1) and last weekend's chief destroyer Ian Broady (9-3-22-1) came on and kept run scoring to a minimum. Once the 4th wicket went down with the score on 55 thanks to a good catch in the deep by Rich Poole off the bowling of McGregor the scoring increased slightly with some late order hitting but Ian Nice (5-1-35-1) and Rob Hale (5-1-16-3) came on to  mop up the tail and Tewkesbury finished on 110-9 off 45 overs.

A superb team performance, full commitment in the field and good batting from the middle order to recover from a wretched start and moved the 2XI upto 3rd in the Division 9 table with a very strong points total. Next Saturday they welcome Frampton-on-Severn 2XI to the Parish Hall with a 1:30 start whereas the 1XI travel to Chalford. And if you cannot wait until then; the midweek XI take on Bharat on Wednesday evening at King George V Playing Fields....yeah, me neither.

Westbury-on-Severn MidweekXI v Witcombe

On Wednesday 30 May, the Midweek XI under the captaincy of Danny Anderson welcomed top-of-the-table and unbeaten Witcombe.

The visitors however only arrived with 7 men and after winning the toss and batting struggled to 109 for 6 (all-out) from 16 overs. Artus, Anderson 2, Edginton, Hargreaves and a run out from Ian Dunn keeping the score down.

After the experiment of the fast-scoring Tom Burrows failed and he was bowled in the first over it was left for Jon Hargreaves and Dan Hockaday (63 not out) to steer Westbury to their target within just 11 overs for the loss of only Burrows.

WOSCC v WOSAFC - The Annual Grudge Match

On Sunday, the Cricket club hosted the Football club in the Annual fixture between the 2 clubs. After the Football club had triumphed in the corresponding fixture in December WOSCC were after revenge.

Both teams fielded strong players and the Cricket team won the toss and batted first. After the early losses of Scott Thomas and Tom Burrows, it was left for Neil Wyman to anchor the innings and after taking the attack to the Football club and launching Club President Clive Tempest for several maximums eventually holed out to Ross Martin for a crucial 96 runs. After contributions from the middle order and 41 from Greg Artus the Cricket Club posted 230 from their 40 overs.

Joe McGregor was the main run scorer for the football club, top scoring with 61. After everyone chipped in and Artus removed the dangerous Ross Martin, the cricket club survived a scare and removed the football club just 20 runs short of their target.

A second fixture between the 2 has been scheduled for July 1.

Westbury-on-Severn 2XI v Glos City Winget 4th XI

With the 1XI having the week off, the club put out a strong team and welcomed Gloucester City on a scorching hot afternoon at the Parish Hall. After stand-in Skipper Neil Wyman won the toss and elected to bat the 2XI recovered from the loss of the top 3 within the first 15 overs the innings was lit up by Chris Wayman who utilised the gaps and put the bad ball away when necessary to reach an agonising 98 not out and he was well supported by Karl George who took advantage of sloppy bowling and a tiring field to notch up 80 unbeaten runs to put the team in a strong position of 244 from their 45 overs.

After young Alex Wyman had removed the visitors opener with the score in single figures the innings was set up nicely for spinner Ian Broady to record superb figures of 5-44 from 8 overs. This even included stand-in wicket-keeper Danny Anderson notching 2 impressive stumpings. Wyman 's 1 for 27,  Burrows' 1-21, Ed Edginton's 1-37 and the same figures from Joe McGregor meant Westbury won by 50 runs and moved back up the table after their set-back the previous week.

The 2XI travel to Tewkesbury 3rds next Saturday and will look to continue their push up the Division9 table.

Westbury-on-Severn Midweek XI v Painswick

Last Wednesday (23rd) May, the Midweek travelled to WEPL club Painswick and put in a spirited yet unconvincing performance against a team revered as one of the best in the region. After the top order of the home team had been removed cheaply by Tom Burrows (1-24) and Greg Artus (1-21) it was left to club Chairman Rich Edginton (2-34) and part time leg spinner Rob Hale (1-36) to restrict the home team to 159 off their 20 overs.

The reply never really got going and Westbury lost wickets at regular intervals despite the innings being anchored by an impressive 32 from skipper Dan Anderson and 27 from Tony Campbell, the Midweek XI slumped to a 61 run defeat and will look to bounce back against Witcombe next week at the Parish Hall.

Westbury-on-Severn CC Weekend 19-20 May

Despite poor weather both the First and Second XIs had outings this weekend. The First team got their season under-way welcoming Tetbury to the Parish Hall on Saturday afternoon. Thanks to tight bowling from John Hargreaves (9-4-14-2) Ed Edginton (5-1-18-1) and Greg Artus (9-2-24-1) which was then backed up by Dan Hockaday who took 3 wickets as Tetbury aimed to hit out at the end. Restricting their opponents to just 149 off their allotted 45 overs, Westbury would have felt in a strong position.

However a series of unlucky dismissals and tight bowling from Tetbury meant that the home side slumped to just 80 all out. Matt Brown top scoring with just 19 runs.

---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

It was a similar story for the Second XI who had to call on several last minute replacements due to injury, illness and lack of commitment. They travelled to Churchdown and after being bowled out for just 81, thanks in part to 37 from Neil Wyman on a very slow pitch and a crucial partnership from Club President Clive Tempest (9 from 60 balls) and ex-Chairman and club legend Brian Wyman (7 from 53 balls) which frustrated the home bowlers.

Defending a low total, Churchdown reached their target of 82 within 27 overs for the loss of 6 wickets. Tom Burrows battled to take 3 wickets for 23 and victory was in sight but the Seconds ran out of runs and fell to a disappointing loss.

There is no game for the First XI next Saturday, but the Second XI host Gloucester City at the Parish Hall with a 1:30 start.

---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

On Sunday there was a different result for the Club. They hosted Dymock who fielded 7 of their normal first team and all was set for a tight and exciting match. After captain Dan Hockaday won the toss and elected to bat in overcast conditions, his decision paid off as opening pair Matt Brown and Greg Artus put on 97 runs for the first wicket before Brown was stumped for 38. Artus then pushed on and alongside Dan Hockaday (38) he moved onto an impressive 100 before retiring in the final stages. The Second 100 to be scored at the Parish Hall this season already. The Sunday XI posted 239 from their 40 overs.

Dymock never looked like getting close to that total and thanks to tight bowling and good fielding were bowled out for just 90; Dan Hockaday taking 2 wickets, Alex Wyman, Tom Burrows, Ian Martin, Scott Thomas and Ian Broady (2) chipping in.

Next weekend sees the annual Westbury-on-Severn CC vs Westbury-on Severn FC cricket match, in what should be an exciting and fun afternoon. Start around 2pm at the Parish Hall.

Westbury on Severn CC v Birdlip and Brimpsfield CC T20 Wednesday 16th May 2012

The Midweek XI began their Evening League Season with a thumping home win against Birdlip and Brimpsfield. Fielding a strong team this Division Two game was rather one-sided as Westbury put in a promising display to go straight to the top of the league.

After stand-in skipper Dan Hockaday won the toss and elected to bat, Neil Wyman was in typical Neil Wyman form and smashed an impressive 6 off the 2nd ball and followed that up with several bludgeoning boundaries before playing round a rare-straight delivery for 28 before club Chairman Rich Edginton was dismissed in similar fashion. That brought young Ross Martin to the crease and despite looking shaky and struggling to adjust to the pace of the pitch and bowling began playing some fluent strokes and along with Chris Wayman - a new addition to the club - began finding the boundaries and gaps with regularity. Against some abject bowling the 2 batsmen began launching massive shots onto the rugby field including four 6s in a row from Martin once Wayman had been caught in the deep for 45 which involved a lot of clever running and appreciation of gaps in the field. As balls began flying out of the ground and over the boundary rope Martin moved onto 94 before edging to fly slip in the final over. He smashed four 4s and seven 6s in a hugely entertaining 94 off 44 balls. Westbury reached an impressive 182 for 4 off 20 overs.

Greg Artus and Ed Edginton then responded with some quick bowling and the latter claimed a superb 4-29 off his 4 overs after beginning with 2 beamers. One of the wickets was indebted to a superb catch by Wayman at deep midwicket. Artus' contribution kept the score down after bowling 4 overs for just 11 runs as the Birdlip batsmen were looking to push the score on. Their desire to score quick runs then resulted in a quick flurry of wickets, a run out after good work from Tom Burrows and Ross Martin who bowled with pace and accuracy to concede just 15 runs from his 4 overs and 2 wickets from Burrows and Hockaday left Birdlip stranded on 127-7 off 20 overs.

Another impressive victory to start the season from Westbury and things look promising for the season. Strong performances in the field from Rob Hale, Tony Campbell and Tim Burrows sets us apart from other opposition.

The midweek XI take on Painswick next week.

Westbury on Severn 2XI v Highnam Court 2XI. Saturday 12th May 2012

Westbury on Severn CC finally kicked off their 2012 season with a resounding victory at the Parish Hall.

After 10 games had fallen foul to the weather, it was a welcome release for the club to get some game time and get out in the middle. After last season's relegation the Second XI settled comfortably against visiting Highnam Court on a slow pitch in damp conditions but produced an impressive first innings total of 282-4 off their allotted 45 overs, after the early loss of opener Aiden Barr the score moved quickly on owing much to a second innings partnership from Ian Dunn (100 ret) and Rich Poole who carefully moved onto 94 before finally giving a chance which was taken in the closing stages. Danny Anderson (27) and Joe McGregor (29*) chipped in with runs at the end and it was left to the bowlers to defend such a large total.

Highnam Court in their reply reached 48-0 off 18 overs after opening bowlers Tom Burrows (0-26)and debutant Jeremy Fern (0-22) finished their allotted 9 over spells, then frustration set in and wickets fell at regular intervals gifting spinners Pete Griffiths (1-27 off 6) and the impressive Joe McGregor (4-13 off 8) and the visitors slumped to just 121 for 6 from their 45 overs as the game petered out. A confident victory to start the season for the 2XI who travel to Churchdown this weekend.

With a few other games called off as they didnt have the benefit of such fantastic groundstaff, the 2XI top the table with 18 out of a possible 22 points.

Am I missing out?

As I yet again sit in bed having objected to another night out in Cheltenham, I play in my head whether or not I have made the right decision.

Admittedly tonight it is well below freezing and I have a spate of the sneezes and sniffles (how masculine) and have decided against a night on the tiles.

I'm blaming it on sleeping patterns, winter is in full swing and if I could stay in bed all day then I probably would. If I go out late and return intoxicated my motivation to ignite for the day the following day will be at low. It seems right now in my body the fuel light is constantly on. I ran for 20 minutes at the gym the other afternoon (something I've had little trouble with) and my legs were ruined.

My motivation for nights 'on-the-lash' has been diminished by my developing lack of respect for people. The lad culture of fighting and generally being scrotums has just made me question myself being in their presence.

I want so much to be spending time with my housemates and course as I feel my reclusive behaviour is just pointless.

But I'm not the guy who goes out and stumbles home with a girl on his arm, brags about his massive night and how many shots were necked. It's embarrassing.

I love a beer, maybe 2 or 3 but I'm not going to tell everyone about it.

I'm a classic, I don't want to go to a club where the music is too loud, you cannot move past the rudeness of the jocks who think just because they're in the 4th team football they own the nightclub. I like pubs, I like the student union, I like being able to hear myself think, rather than plot my route to the bar to shout at the top of your voice to the gimpy gut behind the bar only for him to get your order hopelessly wrong.

Nights out can be good, good music, good company and a good atmosphere. But it seems venues and occasions that provide such are becoming in short supply.

STRS crash out in Quarter Final nailbiter.

Sir Thomas Rich's School in Gloucester were beaten with the very last move of the game this afternoon after St Joseph's College performed a real smash and grab victory after trailing by 9 points into the last 2 minutes.

[From the perspective of an ex-Richian] Sir Thomas Rich's School field was packed this evening as close to 600 spectators roared Tommies on towards Twickenham in this Quarter Final of the Daily Mail Cup against top seeds St Joseph's College from Ipswich.

Tommies had reached the furthest point in the school's history after beating Bishops Wandsworth school the previous week. With a team prided on organisation and teamwork it was a real mis-match at kick off as the much bigger and quicker St Joseph's began confidently to show why they are tipped by many to lift the cup at Twickenham in a few weeks - however after this display they deserve very little.

Tommies opened the scoring with a penalty from scrum-half Ollie Young from just in front of the posts after the travelling centre was sin-binned for killing the ball and back-talking to the very strict referee, an infringement which St Josephs committed far too many times and were rightly punished due to their lack of respect and poor discipline. The first try came from an unusual source, Tommies' hooker Chris Brooks charged down a box-kick and danced down the touchline to place down. Young missed the tricky touchline conversion.

St Joseph's had a real air of arrogance about them and they looked shocked to be behind and their considerably larger forwards were being out-muscled and & out-manoeuvred by the young Tommies' pack. However after a period of sustained pressure on the Tommies' line a rolling maul allowed the impressive St Joe's back row to touch down, and the conversion attempt was closer to the Old Richian's clubhouse than the posts. 8-5

Half time came and went and the next score appeared crucial. Despite dropping the restart Tommies withheld a lot of St Joe's pressure yet the scores were levelled after a penalty.?The boys in Blue then upped the ante and marched up the other end of the pitch and a number of impressive breaks by the imperious Sam Underhill who ignored the age advantage he gave to the opposition and was the best player on the pitch. Young was put on the spot several times and thanks to several erratic tackles and bad discipline yet again to give Tommies a 17-9 lead with 10 minutes remaining. Tommies had about 5 minutes to hold on to the victory as it seemed the visitors were more inclined to fight the home team and themselves and the game was slipping away as Tommies were keeping the ball in hand and looking confident.

The turning point came when the solid Number 8 Charlie Isaac was spear tackled after a ruck and looked to have suffered a serious injury, as attention diverted to his well-being, another scuffle broke out and try-scorer Brooks found himself on the end of a flurry of punches, which the ref was oblivious to. During which time St Joe's recycled the ball out to their speedy winger and as defenders were sucked towards the large lock that trundled towards the line , the ball was slipped out to the wing, touched down and St Joe's sensed a comeback. In football, play is stopped for serious injuries - Isaac was clearly out for the count yet the referee allowed play to materialise into a game-changing score. Tommies now lead by 4 points with 2 minutes remaining. 17-13

It seemed inevitable as this point. Tommies were broken, they had thrown so much effort into the game and St Joseph's had the momentum roared on by a vociferous away following. The ball was secured from the restart and a penalty allowed St Joseph's one more chance, after one attempt to drive over resulted in the badly bruised Brooks to be sin-binned by the referee, the next lineout saw the St Joe's pack secure the ball and edge themselves over the line with the last move of the match. There was no time to restart the game and Tommies were beaten. FT Sir Thomas Rich's 17 - 18 St Joseph's College

This reporter, as an ex-Richian was speechless. St Joseph's were joyous and their away following, parents, flags and horns all invaded the pitch running through the stricken Tommies' warriors. Now, I feel this is completely inappropriate, they were horrendous with their attitude when they were trailing and this hurt - even for a fan. Had this not been a school game then I feel words would have been said because the behaviour of the St Joseph's travelling fans were frankly unacceptable for parents to conduct themselves in such a manner. That saying, St Joseph's did show why they were highly fancied this year, despite showing little with ball in hand, their forwards utilised the rolling maul and the line-out began functioning at the right time after STRS managed to steal all in the first half. 2 of St Joseph's tries came from rolling mauls and marshalled by their solid back rower (#6 - this kid was never under 18, he looks older than me ) they looked organised in this instance.

Final words must go to the STRS boys, they were outstanding, they put their bodies on the line and for 75 minutes they were the better team and MUST send a message to the organisers of the DMC to stand up and take notice of the STRS Rugby team. No longer are St Peters the force in Gloucestershire Rugby. Players like Ollie Young and Sam Underhill were dominant in their areas and belittled their age-group to stand tall and boss the game. The future looks bright for Tommies' Rugby but in my opinion this year the team deserve so much better.

Tommies Til I Die .
